-Right.. my mom already has a car and is the named driver of it. I have got a ford ka and have been looking on insurance company's and it is cheaper for my mom to be the named driver of my car but for me to go on the insurance.. Can my mom own to cars or is this not possible UK only please.NO...that's fraud....insurance companies are now clamping down on this as many young drivers are citing their parents as being the main drivers when they're not, in order to pay smaller premiums. You must state who is the MAIN DRIVER of the Ka ( not the owner or keeper)... as you will be the main driver it would be fraud to say that it was your mother. In the event of an accident, they might not pay out...AND you might be prosecuted for fraud.
You can't blame the insurance companies because they are assessing risk and a young, inexperienced driver is FAR more likely to be involved in a collision than a mature driver...that's why mature drivers pay smaller premiums and young drivers (especially young men) have very steep premiums.Pidlan is correct. The insurance company will smell a rat if they see that you mother is supposed to be the main driver of two cars and a young driver is on one of them. And they do have a national database covering all insurance companies so they can look..
For new insurance they also often request copies of both driving licences within a couple of weeks of taking out the insurance, so that will flag up the situation, particularly if you only have a provisional or have recently passed your test. Plus if you did have an accident and the insurance paid out (and that's a big if) your mother would have to declare that there had been a claim on a policy she held and insurance costs for her own car would go up.
Insurance companies cover risk - statictically you are more likely to have an accident and if you misrepresent the risk then it is fraud and they will revoke the insurance and/or not pay out on any claim.
