Is it possible to buy a registration that used to be on a vehicle before, even if the vehicle no longer exists?

-In general no.You can transfer from a vehicle that exists but it must be roadworthy - have current MOT and so on and be available for inspection. It should be taxed too, though apparently its ok if on SORN (maximum 12 months). You can put the registration number onto a retention certificate and transfer it later on, but the vehicle must exist at the time that is done.Once a vehicle goes the mark dies with it.

There are special schemes for getting back the number of an old car which has been in a barn for many years but again the vehicle has to be put back into roadworthy condition, be available for inspection and there has to be paper proof that the registration does belong to that vehicle (old log book, old county registration records etc) which should tie up with the chassis number. When this happens the registration mark is not transferable.Yes!

There are some Companies registered in London who deal in that line of work!!!
