I'm looking for some help with lower insurance.?

-Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm coming off my 18th birthday in May and I've tried quotes but its going to be like 1600 every six months just for minimal for NY state. Obviously a defensive driving course will help lower it, but is there anything else I can possibly do to lower this? I haven't bought a car yet either, so if there is something I can be told it would beneficial. I'm paying everything by myself, so please help.are you just checking the internet sites? if so, you need to pick a type of car you want to buy, then get out the phone book and start calling local agents. you need to know the car you are buying to get an accurate quote. I call about 10 or 12 agents before I want to barf. Write down the rates and pick the best one, when you buy a car call back with a vin number and get insurance. If you have a family member of someone who can put you on thier insurance your rate should be cheaper still. The best way to change insurance companies is when you get your renewal notice, Any insurance company will write you a policy, you have to call around before hand and find a better deal, then change companies by setting it up on the due date.
Why are all you kids out there trying to 'beat the system'? You are young and inexperienced, so your rates will be based on those factors, from ANY company.
