If caught driving without a licence in the UK...?

-what would happen? Apart from probably being in locked up, would fined on the spot or would you be court summoned? Are you to wait for a letter from the police asking you to make a court appearance, and can you pay the fine before the court makes a ruling(if you plead guilty)? If you had no licence, that is offence 1

no licence means that all the things about the car are also invalid.. insurance offence 2

and the no insurance is the most serious,

Car will be seized and you will be walking home (no they don't help you !)

You pay the recovery fee, and storage fees when you collect it...

don't collect it in the time period given to you... it is crushed, in fact it may be crushed anyway as part of the punishment (Your problem if it belonged to someone else.. it still goes).

You will receive a summons and date to appear in court, - failure to attend is another offence.

If you can't show where you live/they think you are in danger of doing it again or running, you could be arrested on the spot and taken to the cells. (remote possibility but possible)

If you are in a the UK on a visa/visa-waiver, you have just broken your Visa conditions...

so that is now in jeopardy...

There are no on-spot fines..

but no insurance is an 'absolute' crime, you have it or you don't

- they check the electronic database of all cars.

You would have the car confiscated as you would not be insured neither

It would be dealt with by a Magistrates Court which you would be summonsed to and there is nothing anyone can do until the court case decides your punishment, whether you plead guilty or not guilty, which will be a fine and most likely a driving ban of 12 months at least.
You'd go to Court. Car insurance is only valid if you have a licence so you're also driving uninsured - and that's considered a more serious offence. The maximum fine is 拢5,000 and you'd be banned from getting a licence.
For a start the car would be impounded and you would have to walk, even if you have young kids with you unless there was another insured driver in the car, you would be fined and points will be added automarically by the dvla when you take the driving test.
there is no such thing as "fined on the spot" in the UK.

arrested

car confiscated and crushed

bailed pending court appearance

6 month ban

500 quid fine
Where I come from doing those tasks is a hangable offence.
