-I have lived in TX for about 2 months and have not registered my car. It still has Louisiana plates and the inspection sticker did not expire until 7/1/2011. I did not register it bc my car was broke down and I didn't have the money to fix it. Now my car is in working condition and I want to register it in the state of TX. Am i gonna get fined? WHat should I tell the DMV?Register the car online, at http://www.txdmv.gov/vehicles/registrati鈥?/a>
That way you don't have to drive with the expired, Louisiana plates. As long as you arent driving with the expired plates you will not be fined. States dont have a penalty for lapse in registration, only insurance has that. So as long as it is insured you should be able to register online. If not that site gives you instructions on what to do if moving from a different state.
If your registration is expired in any state, you will get pulled over and most likely given a fine.
If your tags are louisiana and you moved to texas, you have until the time they expire to get them switched to texas.
You will not be fined if you don't drive your car to the DMV with the expired tags. I've done it with expired tags but I live in Maine so the law there may be different
The registration office might tell you, "Now you've not been driving this vehicle in the last two weeks, right?" Just say, "Right," because you couldn't drive it, but don't try to explain anything.
Every state has its own peculiar regulations. In Massachusetts, where I once lived, it's that the registration people tend to say, "VEE-hick-kewl" when they pronounce vehicle. They probably say New-Kew-Lar for nuclear, too.
My aunt is from Kansas and she went to school in New Mexico. She now lives in New Mexico, but she has never registered her truck. I don't think you will have any penalties. Just tell them that it hasn't been working properly, that's why you couldn't get it in any sooner.
you can get a ticket
