Does the make of vehicle SUBSTANTIALLY effect insurance rate if you're still only 18?

-and did not attend drivers ed at 16. (I had to drop out twice due to hospitalizations :( I am a female.

Really trying to decide on a reliable vehicle but most of the really safe, reliable cars are expensive makes. I do realize a 2 door, sporty car would also effect pricing.

Give me a difference in price between lets say early 2000 Mazda protege and an early 2000 Lexus ls300The most important factor would be the horsepower of the car itself as far as the cost of liability insurance. The make usually isn't a factor but it might be if the insurance company had significantly more claims with one make than others.

The other posters comments are virtually meaningless without knowing how much coverage and what type his girlfriend has compared to him. Liability, collision, comprehensive, uninsured motorist, are some of types of insurance you can carry. Only liability is required (unless your car is financed), the others are optional. As far as liability you legally need to carry some minimum amount, usually about $25,000 but you can buy $1 million if you want it. $25,000 while legal is barely enough to pay to repair some cars. Put somebody in the hospital with only $25,000 liability and you can expect them to garnish your salary for the rest of your life to pay the medical bills. The vehicle make has a small part in the makeup of a premium. No one here has the slightest idea of the difference in premium between a Mazda and and a Lexus. The only way to know what any car may cost you to insure is to ask an insurance company. You are wasting your time asking anyone but an insurance company
Well to prove you wrong I have a 1987 BMW and it is a 2door with no air bags and my girlfriend drives a 2002 Ford Taurus and her insurance is more exspencive then mine by quite a lot and I have 2speeding tickets and a wreakless driving. Just gotta shop around
